A SCARCE .38-55 1879 PATENT 'REMINGTON-HEPBURN' SIDELEVER FALLING-BLOCK TARGET RIFLE, serial no. 8338,
circa 1881, heavy two-stage 30in. nitro reproved blued barrel (in 2023 with certificate), signed 'REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION N.Y.' and marked with the calibre, dove-tailed tunnel fore-sight, blanking plate to the rear-sight dove-tail, colour-hardened plain receiver (faded) marked 'HEPBURNS PAT OCTOBER 7th 1879', central hammer, top-tang mounted with vernier peep-sight, walnut smooth pistol-grip butt-stock with raised cheek-piece, iron 'shotgun' heel-plate, smooth walnut splinter fore-end with plated tip, 14 1/2in. pull, weight 9lb. 3oz.
